| Goggles are an important piece of equipment. Goggles will help protect your face and eyes while
you are snowboarding. So, your goggles should be both comfortable and functional. Below are
some features to look for when selecting a pair of goggles. Foam padding, silicon on the goggle's strap, and a flexible frame will help your goggles fit comfortably on your face. Soft foam padding around the goggle's frame will help the goggle fit comfortably on your face. Foam padding will also help soak up sweat and help keep moisture away from the inside of the goggle’s lens. Also, some goggle straps have a bead of silicon around the strap. Silicon helps keep the strap from sliding off the back of your head. Your goggles should also have a flexible frame. A flexible frame will help the goggle fit comfortably on your face. If the goggle frame is flexible it will more easily conform to the shape of your face. |

| The goggle’s frame should be made of a material that will remain flexible in cold temperatures. If
your frame becomes hard and you fall it could crack and injure you.
If you wear a helmet while riding, your goggles should fit over your helmet. Not all goggles fit
with all helmets. Some goggles are too wide or too tall to use with some helmets. So, make sure
that your goggles fit over your helmet. Your goggles should also provide you with good peripheral vision. You need to see to the sides of you, as well as in front of you, while you are riding. | ![]()

are one way to prevent fogging. Air vents can be located on the lens or on the goggle’s frame.
Also, double pane lenses help prevent fogging. Some goggles even have a small fan to help move
air inside the goggle.
The color of your goggle’s lens is also important. Dark tints should be used on days when the sun
is bright, and light tints should be used when it is darker out. Generally, an amber color lens is
good for most conditions. But, on days when it is cloudy but bright out you may want to try a
yellow or amber tint. On days when it is clear and sunny a mirrored lens works best to cut glare
and reflected light. In heavy snow an amber or yellow lens will work. For night riding wear a
clear lens.
The goggle’s lens should also be impact resistant. A lens that is impact resistant is less likely to
shatter and cause you injury if you fall on your face.
These are some features to look for when selecting goggles. Overall, your goggles should be
comfortable and functional. Foam padding and a flexible frame will help your goggles fit
comfortably on your face. But, your goggles should also provide you with good peripheral
vision, be anti-fog, and come with a lens that is suited for the conditions that you will be riding in. Download our What to Look for When Choosing a Pair of Goggles video clip, or click here to go to our Video Clips page.
