Janean Soltis

Janean Soltis has been snowboarding on the hills of Southwestern Montana since age 14. Born and raised
in the Paradise Valley, her Mother taught her to snowboard along with a group of school pals. She
graduated a semester early from Bozeman High School in 1998 in order to devote more time to her
snowboarding career.
Janean's first competition came when she was sixteen and won a pro women's competition in
Missoula. Since then, she has competed in statewide contests and placed high in each one.
Being raised with four brothers and a sister, Janean is an aggressive competitor who risks
everything to satisfy her hunger for snowboarding.
Janean's desire for her snowboarding has caused her to work at numerous jobs so that she can
improve her skills and become morecompetitive. She earned enough to send herself to snowboard camp
in the summer of 1998 in order to learn to ride halfpipe. When Big Sky resort finally got a halfpipe
during the winter of 1999, she was able to ride for a handful of days throughout the season.
The summer of 1999 found Janean heading to Canada to ride the halfpipe at Blackcomb-Whistler.
She spent nearly two
months gaining experience and tweaking her skills in preparation for entering
more competitions this winter. She intends to compete as much as possible this winter.
When she isn't on the slopes, Janean likes to read, skateboard, sing, hike and bike. But not
all at the same time...
