Some Final Tips

Before you buy a snowboard you should consider how often you go snowboarding during the winter season. If you only go riding a few times during the season make sure you buy a board that you will be able to grow with. For example, let's say you are a beginner and you buy a beginner board. You then use that board five or six times your first season. By next season you will be looking for a new board because you would have outgrown your beginner board. One tip is to look for a beginner-intermediate, or intermediate board if you know you will want to continue snowboarding after your first season. Buying a new board every year is expensive.

Also, consider how much you are willing to spend for a snowboard. You don't have to have the best snowboard to enjoy snowboarding. If you are strapped for cash consider looking at last season's models. Some of last season's snowboards can be found for 40% less than what the current season's model is selling for. Also, look for used snowboards at snowboard swaps, or preseason sales. Sometimes you can find a good deal on a lightly used snowboard.

Finally, consider renting or demoing a snowboard before you buy a snowboard. It is always best to try before you buy, but let's face it not everyone can do that. Just use common sense before you invest hundreds of dollars on your next board: Read reviews of the board you are interested in, read what the manufacturer's catalog has to say about the board, talk to the salesperson at the boardshop, and ask your friends what they think about the board you want to buy.

Overall, choosing a snowboard doesn’t have to be frustrating if you know what you are looking for. Before you go to buy a snowboard decide what type of riding you will be doing. Then, consider the length of the board, the width of the board, sidecut radius, and the stance options. Also, look at the base, the edges, and the “insides” of the board. By carefully choosing a snowboard you will find a board that will work for you, and that will last a long time.
